Board of Trustees reorganized at the RAG-Stiftung

Berlin/Essen, 28 November 2022. The Board of Trustees of the RAG-Stiftung, which has five ex officio members and eight additional members, met today in Berlin and elected Armin Laschet, 61, as its Chairman from among the additional trustees in accordance with the foundation’s statutes. Michael Vassiliadis, 58, remains Deputy Chairman.

Prior to today’s meeting of the Board of Trustees, Thomas Kufen, 49, and Dr Andreas Reichel, 61, were each reappointed as members of the Board of Trustees for a further five years. In addition, Annemarie Lütkes, 74, and Reiner Priggen, 69, joined the foundation’s Board of Trustees as new members. Their appointment was also for a period of five years.

The Board of Trustees would like to thank the previous Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Jürgen Großmann, 70, who chaired the Board for ten years, for his excellent work. His term of office was marked, among other things, by the socially acceptable phase-out of the German hard coal mining industry in December 2018. Concurrently with the end of the mining operations, the RAG-Stiftung took over the financing of the perpetual obligations for the first time.

Dr Großmann’s successor, Armin Laschet, was already an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees from June 2017 to October 2021 as Premier of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and has again belonged to the Board of Trustees as one of its additional members since April 2022. As a result, he is very familiar with foundation-related topics.

About the Board of Trustees of the RAG-Stiftung
In accordance with the statutes, the Board of Trustees of the RAG-Stiftung consists of five ex officio members as well as eight additional members. The additional members are appointed by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (four members), by the Federal Republic of Germany (two members), and by the State of Saarland and the IG BCE (one member each).

Im Vorfeld an die heutige Kuratoriumssitzung waren Thomas Kufen (49) und Dr. Andreas Reichel (61) für jeweils fünf weitere Jahre als Kuratoriumsmitglieder wiederbestellt worden. Als neue Mitglieder sind darüber hinaus Annemarie Lütkes (74) und Reiner Priggen (69) in das Stiftungskuratorium eingezogen. Ihre Bestellung erfolgte ebenfalls für einen Zeitraum von fünf Jahren.

Das Kuratorium dankt dem bisherigen Kuratoriumsvorsitzenden Dr. Jürgen Großmann (70), der den Vorsitz zehn Jahre innehatte, für die hervorragende Zusammenarbeit. Seine Amtszeit war unter anderem von dem sozialverträglichen Auslauf des deutschen Steinkohlenbergbaus im Dezember 2018 geprägt. Mit Ende der Fördereinstellung übernahm die RAG-Stiftung erstmals die Finanzierung der sogenannten Ewigkeitsaufgaben.

Sein Nachfolger Armin Laschet war bereits von Juni 2017 bis Oktober 2021 als Ministerpräsident des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen geborenes Mitglied des Kuratoriums und ist seit April 2022 erneut im Kreis der weiteren Kuratoriumsmitglieder. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist er mit den Stiftungsthemen bereits eng vertraut.
